The ELA standards are very useful for knowing what services you can provide for students in order to teach them the things that are crucial to learning at their grade level. I chose the 11-12 grade level and looked at the standard that dealt with writing informative and explanatory texts to communicate ideas and concepts in an organized manner using various tools such as Word, ERIC, and Wordle. I feel as if I am prepared to communicate and share this knowledge with others because, in college, we have to able to share information with where people can understand it in an easy way. The skills that I have, I know I can help someone else learn those same skills and even do them better than I could.
The CPALMS Educator tool kit is an online resource that helps teachers reach their education standards in their classrooms. There are resources for grades K-12 so all grade levels have their own tools and resources. I would use this in my classrooms to give students an alternative source of learning. This tool kit could also benefit schools in poorer districts because you can use the resources when nice books or computers are readily available for the whole class. There are numerous subjects in the tool kit and educators can expand their curriculum utilizing the tools in the kit.
The Newsletter assignment helped my word formatting improve and I was able to learn some new skills along the way. In the future, I think I can be more creative with my newsletter, and find new tools and features to make it more aesthetically pleasing. I found the assignment useful to me and I hope to use these skills in future endeavors. While there are applications where you can make a newsletter based on a template, knowing how to make it yourself is very rewarding.
